Turning a Corner

I am feeling so proud of myself right now, I am so happy and I just had to share it with you!!!!! (See, I think the explanation marks explain just how I feel right now!!) I don’t want to be all braggy (#sorrynotsorry) but things like this just don’t happen to a girl like me. Things are looking up and I just can not explain my happiness right now. I don’t want to be *that guy* but I have to be a bit cryptic about the exact reasoning for this, but all I can say is some exciting things are a happening around here and I feel like I have turned a corner with blogging.

When I first started blogging, I’ll be honest I liked the idea of a few freebies along the way, but mostly my goal was always to blog about fashion. I always thought I would move to Bristol and take more street style photography. I was pretty clueless when I first came across the concept of blogging. A friend introduced me to it back in 2012 and at the time I had no idea there were people out there making a living from blogging. It wasn’t until I discovered rock n roll bride and back then her school of rock class (which was replaced by the bigger and better The Blogcademy soon after), did I ever realise blogging was a thing.

“I am a fairly new blogger and am not a natural writer but have been through a lot the last 10months and used my blog as a very personal outlet to show the world that trials and tribulations of business. I wanted to be as honest as possible and served more as a public diary more than anything. Basically I am a good moaner!! Now the business is becoming successful and I’v nothing to moan about anymore, I am struggling to find anything to write about. I am moving from Bournemouth to Bristol in September and am looking forward to the opportunities that will open up in such a quirky place. I am sure I will have lots to write about during the transition but ultimately I would like to turn the blog in to part of the business. I am very interested in quirky fashions and have always been a bit ‘different’ myself so I am keen to start street style snapping combining my photography and design to create a blog that is both visual and informative to grow my audience.”

My blogging journey has been a bit windy, it’s taken many different directions. It’s taken me a long time to get to that original goal (and beyond) that I had first imagined back in 2012. For the good and the bad I’ve eventually ended up in a place that feels right.

Being back in Bournemouth recently has given me the chance to reflect on how far I have come in so little time. I remember trying to shoot my first outfit post back in my pokey (and very messy and cluttered bedroom) a little under three year ago, and how amateur it was. I remember my old blogspot blog under my business name Fishee Designs, and how ugly it was in comparison to now. I have learned so much in three years, I have met so many amazing people. I’ve said yes to so many fantastic opportunities because I have pushed myself to grow and evolve as a person. Since the launch of Mermaid Gossip, I finally feel like I have found a place I belong. Somewhere I can continue to develop, in my own skin. I feel like I’m setting my own standards now, after so many years of looking for myself.

Here I am, I am loving life and I am so proud that I have managed to achieve so much so far. I’m excited to see what other doors will open up and where this journey is taking me. I feel so proud to start building a little community. It’s all you wonderful lot that make all this worth every second.  It’s amazing to think you can carve you own path out of life if you work hard and stay strong. I could have given up so many times but it finally feels like all the hard work and determination is paying off.
